Machabeng College, International School of Lesotho is a school committed to internationalism and interculturalism. This is reflected in the curriculum it offers, particularly the IB Diploma Programme, its commitment to learning Sesotho, Mandarin, Spanish and French, and other co-curricular opportunities.
The school provides the only opportunity for the students in Lesotho to study the IB Diploma program. This supports the country in gaining a university education overseas for the country’s benefit.
The Government of Lesotho, through National Manpower Development Secretariat (NMDS), sponsors students to attend Machabeng College for the IBDP and has supported the school financially for many years.
The college has been in operation for 45 years, which gives a strong indication of the commitment of the Basotho to the college. The college has been accredited since 1987. It is both a day and boarding school whereby the boarding sector caters for IBDP students who come from far and need safe accommodation.
Machabeng College is an International School based in Lesotho that is committed to providing an internationally recognised pre-university education and access to international curriculum, whilst also being an educational resource for the local community.
The college offers the full IBDP programs and is an IB accredited school to run the examinations: IBDP, IB Course, and IB career. Students are advised on subject selection based on their academic strengths. Students sponsored by NMDS have to meet the agreed criteria set by NMDS for them to get the sponsorship. To remain accredited, the school has met the standards of IB. Inspectors may visit the college incognito from IB to ensure that the college is meeting the expectations of the examination guidelines.
The college is accredited to run the IGCSE examinations. The college has met the standards of the examining bodies to run the examinations. Inspectors from CIE may from time to time visit the school incognito to ensure the examination regulations are followed.
The college is a member school of CIS/NEASC. The college carried out a self study whereby they met most of the standards of the accrediting body. However, there were ten issues which needed to be addressed. Six of the issues were fully addressed. However, CIS/NEASC identified the remaining four as serious deficiencies and therefore CIS/NEASC requested a special report which was to be corroborated by a special evaluation.
