School Leadership

Chairperson - Ms Keratile Thabana

As Chairperson of the Board of Governors, and as someone born and raised in the Kingdom of Lesotho, it is both a personal honour and a professional responsibility to serve Machabeng College — an institution that has shaped generations of young people and continues to play a vital role in our country’s educational landscape.

Machabeng College was founded on a powerful belief: that learners in Lesotho deserve access to education that meets the highest international standards while remaining firmly rooted in local values, identity and community. Nearly five decades later, that belief remains at the heart of our work as a governing body. The Board is committed to ensuring strong governance, ethical leadership, financial sustainability and strategic clarity, so that the College can continue to thrive in a changing global context.

As Governors, we work in close partnership with the School Leadership Team to safeguard the College’s mission, support academic excellence and uphold the wellbeing of every student entrusted to our care. We are guided by the Machabeng Constitution, national legislation and international best practice, with a shared focus on accountability, transparency and long-term impact. Our role is not only to oversee, but to enable — creating the conditions in which educators can teach with confidence and students can learn, grow and lead with purpose.

Machabeng’s strength lies in its unique position: a truly international school set within the cultural richness of Lesotho. This balance between global outlook and local grounding prepares our students to succeed anywhere in the world while remaining connected to who they are and where they come from. It is this dual identity that makes Machabeng both distinctive and enduring.

On behalf of the Board of Governors, I thank our students, parents, staff, alumni and partners for their continued trust and commitment. Together, we move forward — Pele-ea-Pele — guided by purpose, strengthened by community, and inspired by the promise of what education can achieve for Lesotho and beyond.

Our Head of School and Senior Leadership Team lead with professionalism, empathy and a commitment to excellence in teaching, learning and student welfare.

Head of School - Rupa Sen

Welcome to Machabeng College, where academic excellence meets strong values and purposeful learning. We are a vibrant learning community dedicated to nurturing confident, disciplined, and well-rounded learners. At Machabeng College, we combine high academic standards with character development to prepare students for success in school and beyond.

Our approach to education is holistic and student-centred. We believe in partnership with parents and guardians, and in creating a safe, supportive environment where every learner is encouraged to reach their full potential. We invite you to explore our programmes, values, and school life, and to discover why Machabeng College is the right choice for your child’s future.

Welcome to our community that flourishes and thrives regardless of our circumstances!

Deputy Head of School (Head of Academics) - G Magombedze

At Machabeng College, we proudly nurture a culture of excellence, integrity, and
global-mindedness. As Deputy Head of School, it is my privilege to witness the remarkable growth of our students as they engage with rigorous academic standards and transformative learning experiences that prepare them to thrive in a rapidly changing world.

Machabeng College is more than an academic institution; it is a vibrant international community where values, discipline, and curiosity shape the foundation of every learning journey. Our commitment to the Machabeng College Mission is clear: to provide excellent pre-university international education that inspires intellectual inquiry, cultivates character, and empowers students to serve as global citizens and future leaders.

Within our classrooms, we deliver world-renowned IBDP and Cambridge curricula designed to challenge, refine, and expand each learner’s potential. Our students explore a broad spectrum of subjects; from the sciences to Global Perspectives, Economics, Accounting, Business Management, and Humanities, developing analytical precision, cultural awareness, and ethical insight. Meanwhile, our emphasis on Service Learning anchors their academic achievements in compassion and social responsibility.

The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) stands as a cornerstone of our academic model. Through the Extended Essay, students pursue independent research that builds resilience and intellectual confidence. The Theory of Knowledge (TOK) course inspires critical reflection and a deeper understanding of how knowledge shapes our world, while Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) encourages initiative, empathy, and purpose. Together, these components provide students with unparalleled preparation for university and beyond, cultivating the confidence, balance, and worldview that top global institutions value.

At Machabeng College, learning extends far beyond textbooks, it is an invitation to think deeply, act responsibly, and lead courageously. We uphold the highest standards of child safeguarding and student welfare, ensuring that every learner grows within a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment. Our culture of mentorship fosters the personal development of each student, empowering them to discover their strengths and ambitions while learning the value of discipline, perseverance, and respect. Our holistic approach ensures that Machabeng graduates leave our gates not only with academic distinction but also as principled, reflective, and compassionate individuals ready to make a positive impact in their communities and across the world.

To every parent seeking a school that combines academic rigor with personal growth, and to every student eager to explore, question, and excel, Machabeng College welcomes you. Here, your child will find a space to dream, achieve, and become equipped for the challenges of the future and inspired to change it for the better.

Senior Leadership Team

Mrs. Makuru Mamonyaka

Accreditation Coordinator (Quality Assurance Officer)

My role is one of service to the Machabeng College community, dedicated to supporting our shared commitment to excellence and growth. I help to guide our school through the important processes of external accreditation, working closely with colleagues to gather and present the evidence of our collective efforts, and to welcome the valuable insights of visiting accreditation teams. This work is about honouring our mission by ensuring we meet the high standards we have set for ourselves and those required by our international accrediting bodies. In my capacity supporting quality assurance, my focus is on listening, observing, and collaborating. I work alongside our dedicated educators and staff to help review our practices, celebrate what we do well, and thoughtfully identify areas where we can grow together. It is a privilege to help facilitate our ongoing reflection and to ensure we are faithfully implementing the frameworks of our accreditors and the unique vision of our school within the context of Lesotho, but with a global focus. I see myself as a bridge connecting our daily work with formal standards, and communicating our school’s story and needs to external organisations.

Ultimately, my purpose is to serve our students by helping to nurture an environment of continuous improvement, where the quality of a Machabeng education is quietly, consistently, and diligently upheld by every member of our community.

Mrs. Makubatsi Matsoso

Upper School Coordinator (International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme)

As the IB Diploma Coordinator here at Machabeng College, I have the privilege of guiding our students through one of the world’s most respected and transformative educational programmes. My role sits at the heart of a vital partnership between our students, our dedicated teachers, our parents, and the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO).

To our current students and prospective ones, I am your navigator, advocate, and guide. My colleagues and I are here to ensure you are supported, challenged, and inspired as you develop the knowledge, skills, and character outlined in the IB learner profile. We guide you through the academic journey, from selecting courses to completing your Extended Essay and CAS projects, aiming not just for academic excellence but for profound personal growth.

To our parents/guardians and families, you are indispensable partners. Your support provides the foundation for your child’s resilience and success. Open communication is key. I encourage you to engage with us, attend information evenings, and maintain dialogue with teachers. Your role is not to manage the academic work, but to provide the nurturing environment, perspective, and encouragement that allows your child to manage stress, celebrate milestones, and grow through challenges. During exam sessions, your understanding and support in maintaining a balanced routine at home are invaluable.

In relation to exams and assessment, I oversee the entire lifecycle of IB assessment at our school. This includes ensuring all internal assessments (IAs) and coursework are completed to standard and submitted on time, coordinating the secure administration of final examinations, and managing special circumstances requests (such as access arrangements). My goal is to ensure the process is smooth, fair, and transparent, so every student can perform to their true potential in a supportive environment.

To and from the IBO, I serve as the official liaison between our school and the

International Baccalaureate Organization. This entails ensuring our school fully implements IB standards and practices, managing the registration of students and courses, submitting all required assessments and grades, and staying current with IBO policy updates. I translate IBO regulations and communications into clear guidance for our community, while also representing the unique character and needs of our school back to the IBO.

It is an honour to steward this remarkable programme. I am deeply committed to fostering a collaborative community where every student is known, supported, and inspired to reach their full potential as inquisitive, principled, and globally minded individuals.

Ms. Neo Thulo

Middle School Coordinator (Cambridge IGCSE)

I guide our Secondary 4 and 5 students through the defining Cambridge IGCSE years, overseeing their academic journey and personal growth. My focus is on ensuring a seamless and supportive experience as they engage with this rigorous curriculum. I work closely with our dedicated teachers within their respective academic departments to support progress and help students develop the critical thinking and disciplined study habits essential for IGCSE success and for building a strong foundation for future studies, whether in the IB Diploma Programme or other advanced pathways.

I also foster a close partnership with parents, maintaining clear communication about curriculum expectations, assessment milestones, and wellbeing. My role involves coordinating the entire IGCSE process, from subject selection and coursework deadlines to final examinations, while serving as the primary liaison with Cambridge International to ensure compliance and smooth operations.

Beyond academics, I am dedicated to cultivating a supportive and connected community. I oversee pastoral care, encourage student leadership, and help balance the demands of the programme with a focus on each student’s holistic development. It is my privilege to support our young learners during this challenging and rewarding stage, ensuring they feel prepared, confident, and valued. To learn more about the Cambridge IGCSE curriculum at our school, please visit our dedicated programme page.

Mrs. Malekhotla Shoniwa

Lower School Coordinator (Cambridge Lower Secondary)

I lead the Lower School journey for our Secondary 1 to 3 students as they follow the Cambridge Lower Secondary curriculum. My role is focused on creating a nurturing and stimulating environment where young learners build a strong academic foundation while developing a genuine love for inquiry and discovery. I work alongside our dedicated teachers to ensure the curriculum is delivered with creativity and care, guiding students as they cultivate the core skills in English, Mathematics, and Science that will prepare them for the Cambridge Checkpoint assessments and the more specialised studies ahead.

I am building a collaborative partnership with parents, providing clear insights into the curriculum framework and our developmental approach to learning. I coordinate the Checkpoint assessment process in close alignment with Cambridge International, ensuring it is a positive and constructive milestone that celebrates growth and informs future teaching.

My focus extends beyond academics to fostering a vibrant and inclusive Lower School community where every student feels a strong sense of belonging and is encouraged to explore their interests, develop confidence, and practise the values of respect and responsibility. It is my joy to support these formative years, laying the groundwork for a lifelong journey of learning and personal growth.

Learners initiate CAS experiences which address seven learning outcomes, evidenced within their portfolios. Learners undertake a CAS project of at least one month’s duration, which may address a single CAS strand or combine two or three strands. Students use the CAS stages (investigation, preparation, action, reflection, and demonstration) as a framework for CAS experiences and the CAS project.

There are three formal documented interviews students must have with their CAS adviser/coordinator: the first at the beginning of the CAS programme, the second at the end of the first year, and the third at the end of the CAS programme. Learners’ portfolios show detailed evidence with reflections, which are central to building a deep and rich CAS experience. All CAS experiences and projects undergo approval by the CAS adviser/coordinator, with completion of a risk assessment form.

Service Learning (SL) starts from Lower School through to Middle School. Machabeng

Mr Molatele Moeketsi

Creativity, Activity and Service (CAS) and Service Learning

Creativity, Activity and Service (CAS) is at the heart of the Diploma Programme. With its holistic approach, CAS is designed to strengthen and extend students’ personal and interpersonal learning from the Primary Years Programme and Middle Years Programme (Lower School and Middle School) as Service Learning. CAS complements the IBDP programme in a holistic way, providing opportunities for self-determination, collaboration, accomplishment, and enjoyment. A meaningful CAS programme is a journey of self-discovery and personal development.

Creativity strand: Learners explore and extend ideas leading to original or interpretive products or performances. Activity strand: Learners engage in physical exertion contributing to a healthy lifestyle. Service strand: Learners engage in collaborative and reciprocal engagement with the community in response to authentic needs.

The CAS programme is a requirement for the award of the IB Diploma. It takes 18 months of involvement, and students at Machabeng College are expected to develop their portfolio on ManageBac as a learning management system that monitors learners’ progress and accomplishments. All CAS students are expected to maintain and complete a CAS portfolio as evidence of their engagement.

College is a member of the Association of International Schools in Africa (AISA). Service Learning involves authentic community engagement integrated with the curriculum, focusing on student growth, community betterment, reciprocal partnerships, critical reflection, and the development of global citizenship. It moves beyond simple volunteering to purposeful action that addresses real needs.

It is a holistic approach that builds skills such as leadership, problem-solving, and empathy, making learning relevant and impactful. Similar to CAS, Service Learning students are involved in experiences that mainly address the needs of the community.

The SL programme is based on the principles that, students learn from, and are enriched by, the perspectives of others.Students have a responsibility to the community they live in.Students develop leadership skills, teamwork, communication, and respect for others.Students are actively engaged in meaningful service experiences.
