Machabeng College was born from a bold idea: that young people in Lesotho deserved access to an education that connected them to the world. From the very beginning, our founders envisioned a school where diversity enriched learning, where excellence was expected, and where every student could develop the confidence to step onto global pathways. This spirit of international-
mindedness became the heartbeat of Machabeng — a place where cultures meet, where perspectives widen, and where students grow into globally aware, compassionate thinkers.
Over the years, Machabeng has continued to evolve while remaining deeply committed to its purpose. Our motto, Pele-ea-Pele — Forward We Move, reflects more than movement; it captures our identity as a forward-looking institution that constantly adapts to a changing world. From integrating international curricula to expanding languages and strengthening wellbeing and safeguarding practices, we have remained focused on shaping students who are confident, principled, and ready for life beyond the classroom.

History
Machabeng College was born from a bold idea: that young people in Lesotho deserved access to an education that connected them to the world. From the very beginning, our founders envisioned a school where diversity enriched learning, where excellence was expected, and where every student could develop the confidence to step onto global pathways. This spirit of international-
mindedness became the heartbeat of Machabeng — a place where cultures meet, where perspectives widen, and where students grow into globally aware, compassionate thinkers.
In its early years, the school offered the Cambridge O-Level and A-Level qualifications, quickly becoming known for academic excellence and a uniquely diverse environment. Students and teachers from different countries, cultures and backgrounds made Machabeng a vibrant hub of international understanding — a place where global citizenship was not taught only in theory, but lived daily in classrooms, hallways and community events. These early decades shaped a generation of young leaders who would go on to influence government, business, civil society and global organisations.
As the world changed, Machabeng continued to move forward. Recognising the need for even stronger global alignment, the College adopted the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, becoming the only school in Lesotho to offer this prestigious qualification.
The transition strengthened our commitment to inquiry, critical thinking, cultural awareness and holistic development — values that remain central today. Despite periods of challenge, including shifts in staffing diversity and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, Machabeng has remained resilient. We embraced blended learning, expanded language offerings to include Spanish and Mandarin, and continued refining our student support and wellbeing structures.
Today, nearly 50 years since its founding, Machabeng College stands strong — a school shaped by history yet energised by its future. Our story is one of perseverance, growth and unwavering dedication to developing globally minded leaders who understand their responsibility to build a more peaceful and connected world.

Machabeng College is proudly situated in the heart of the Kingdom of Lesotho, in the capital city of Maseru. Our campus rests on a serene hilltop beside the Royal Palace, blending prestige with tranquillity. Spanning four hectares, the school provides a secure, inspiring environment for learning and growth.
